Recap: Achraf Hakimi’s Brace Leads PSG to Narrow Win Over OL

Behind a brace from Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Olympique Lyonnais 3-2 Sunday night at Groupama Stadium.

PSG and OL played to a goalless first half, but after the break, both teams found their scoring touch for a thrilling finish. The visitors struck twice in six minutes to jump to a 2-0 lead.

In the 53rd minute, Bradley Barcola sent in a cross, but none of the PSG players reacted. That left Hakimi free to make a run to the far post, where he blasted a powerful shot past Lucas Perri.

Six minutes later, Ousmane Dembélé entered the box, opened his foot, and curled a shot past Perri that couldn’t be stopped.

Despite being down 2-0, Lyon responded to cut into PSG's lead. After some brilliant play from Georges Mikautadze, he set up Rayan Cherki, who took his time before finishing calmly to make it 2-1 in the 83rd minute.

OL's positive momentum would end quickly as the capital restored their two-goal advantage two minutes later. Gonçalo Ramos set up Lee Kang-in with a brilliant backheel, and then Lee laid it off to Hakimi, who finished with an unstoppable side-foot.

Lyon again didn't go away as Corentin Tolisso finished off a cross from Ainsley Maitland-Niles to score for the fifth match in a row across all competitions. Despite the goal to cut the deficit to one, Lyon ran out of time to level the contest and fell 3-2.

After the match, Mikautadze spoke to DAZN about the disappointing result for Les Gones.

"We reacted too late. We didn’t play offensively enough. When we do, we can really cause problems—PSG was on edge until the end. We didn’t do enough in the first 70 or 80 minutes. We gave up three goals that could have been avoided."

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also told DAZN that Lyon deserves credit for not backing down, even after PSG had two separate two-goal leads.

"It was a tough match because they kept attacking until the very end. They never stopped, so we had to stay solid in defense all the way through."

The Stat: 5

Although OL went down with a fight, PSG have had their number in the last couple of matches. The capital club becomes the first club to record five consecutive victories against OL in official competitions since AS Nancy-Lorraine from May 1982 to March 1991.
