Sunday’s multiplex slot featured two exciting matches. AJ Auxerre and Toulouse FC ended in a 2-2 draw while RC Strasbourg claimed all three points with a 2-0 victory over Montpellier Hérault SC.
Catch up on the action with a recap of both thrilling matches, packed with all the key details.
AJA and Les Violets went into halftime without a goal, but both sides came alive in the second half, delivering an entertaining contest at Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps.
In the 62nd minute, Jubal headed it in from a corner, breaking the deadlock with a set piece that caught Toulouse’s defense off guard at the penalty spot. Despite conceding the opening goal, the visitors didn't take long to respond and level the match at one-all.
Six minutes after AJA took the lead, Charlie Cresswell equalized with a header at the back post from a corner as Donovan Léon hesitated to come out. The Englishman made no mistake in taking advantage of his opportunity, scoring his first goal of the Ligue 1 McDonald's season in the 68th minute.
Just three minutes after Toulouse's equalizer, Gaëtan Perrin played a brilliant through ball to Hamed Traorè, who chipped it beautifully over Kjetil Haug to give AJA a 2-1 lead.
After those chaotic moments, the scoring slowed, and AJA managed to hold onto their lead heading into the final minutes. The home side seemed set to claim the three points, but a late goal from Toulouse in the 89th minute stole them away.
Noah Edjouma took advantage of a cross from Shavy Babicka on the right to score the equalizer. The 19-year-old, a product of the club’s academy, scored his first goal in Ligue 1 McDonald's and brought his team back into the game as the match would finish two-all.
Strasbourg snapped their two-match losing streak with a victory at Stade de la Meinau as the opening goal for the home side came in the first half stoppage time.
The Montpellier defense was caught off guard as Sebastian Nanasi broke through and faced Benjamin Lecomte. His delicate chip was blocked by the goalkeeper, but the ball rolled toward the goal, and Emanuel Emegha was there to tap it in.
Liam Rosenior and his team secured the vital second goal in the 69th minute, putting the game beyond doubt. Nanasi was outstanding, playing a key role in the first goal and then scoring the second for Strasbourg.
For the second goal, Diego Moreira was relentless on the right wing, sending in a low cross that found Nanasi at the far post. The 22-year-old made no mistake, finishing with his left foot on the first touch.
Strasbourg secured all three points with the 2-0 win while Montpellier missed an opportunity to get out of the direct relegation zone following AS Saint-Étienne's 2-0 loss to Stade Rennais on Saturday.
Strasbourg now have six players with at least six goal contributions in Ligue 1 McDonald’s this season. Only Paris Saint-Germain (7) have more.
