Mercato: Furuhashi to Rennes, Cardona to Sainté and more

After a busy weekend of Ligue 1 McDonald's football, we look back at the movements of the mercato over the last few days.

Irvin Cardona has returned to Ligue 1 McDonald's with AS Saint-Étienne

Irvin Cardona returns to Sainté

French striker Irvin Cardona has been loaned to AS Saint-Etienne until the end of the season. Aged 27, Cardona had already played with the club on loan last season (22 games, 10 goals) contributing to ASSE's promotion to Ligue 1 McDonald's. Trained in Monaco then loaned to Cercle Bruges, Monaco's partner club, he played four years in Brest (2019-2023, 106 games, 19 goals) before being transferred to Augsburg in January 2023, where he played very little (13 games, 1 goal). He had been on loan since the start of the season with La Liga side Espanyol (18 games, 2 goals). 

A new striker for Stade Rennais

The Breton club have signed striker Kyogo Furuhashi. After bringing joy to Celtic for three seasons, the 30-year-old striker will try to conquer Roazhon Park, where he has signed until 2027. With an average of one goal every two games, 85 in 165 matches in all competitions, "his constant efficiency has made him an undisputed key player at the Scottish giant", remarked the Stade Rennais hierarchy about the Japanese international. Conversely, Portuguese  winger Jota, signed last summer and who did not convince in Brittany, has already left the club to go to Scotland.

Lens strengthens its defense

RC Lens has secured the loan of Sierra Leonean defender Juma Bah until the end of the season. Presented by the northern club as an "athletic player (1m95), strong in duels and dominant in the air", he arrives from Manchester City after being signed from Real Valladolid CF this winter. Aged 18, he was one of the revelations of La Liga during the first half of the season (12 games). He will wear number 27 for Le Sang et Or.
