Paris Saint-Germain pulled off a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Manchester City on Wednesday night at Parc des Princes.
After a scoreless first half, the two sides combined to score six goals in the second, with Luis Enrique and his team finding the back of the net on four occasions. However, it was Manchester City that opened the scoring.
Jack Grealish gave Pep Guardiola and his team the 1-0 lead after he scored in the 50th minute as the midfielder stabbed home a loose ball in the area.
PSG found themselves in an even tougher spot just moments later, as Manchester City doubled their lead. Three minutes after Grealish’s goal, Erling Haaland struck with a left-footed shot from close range that beat the goalkeeper to the bottom right corner, putting PSG down 2-0.
But the capital club refused to back down. Despite the challenge, they rallied. In the 56th minute, Ousmane Dembélé, who had been brought on in the second half, found the back of the net to reduce the deficit to 2-1, sparking hope and setting the stage for the comeback.
In the 60th minute, Bradley Barcola, who had assisted on Dembélé's earlier goal, made his mark by leveling the score. With a right-footed shot from the heart of the box, he sent the ball into the bottom left corner, making it 2-2 for PSG.
The Parisians took the lead in the 78th minute after Vitinha delivered a precise set piece cross and João Neves rose to meet it with a header from the left side of the six-yard box, sending the ball into the bottom left corner to put PSG 3-2 ahead.
Gonçalo Ramos sealed the win for PSG in stoppage time, scoring an insurance goal that ensured all three points. The 23-year-old striker slotted a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the top right corner. The goal was initially reviewed by VAR before being confirmed.
After the match, Neves spoke to Canal+ and shared his thoughts on the comeback win, understanding that PSG needed to secure all three points.
"It's a mix of emotions. We dominated in the first half. In the second half, we could have come back better, but they took control of the match. Even at 2-0, we managed to come back, and I'm very proud of the team. We kept the same philosophy, that's the secret. We stayed focused."
The win was crucial for PSG's hopes of advancing to the next phase of the competition as the Ligue 1 McDonald's club now sit in 22nd place with 10 points. PSG will have a chance to punch their ticket to the next stage of the Champions League on Matchday 8 when they face VfB Stuttgart.
PSG came from two goals down to win for the first time in the Champions League. They became the first French team to pull off this feat since Olympique Marseille did it against Borussia Dortmund on December 6, 2011.
