The 2024-25 season got off to a tough start for Gonçalo Ramos, who picked up an ankle injury during Paris Saint-Germain's first Ligue 1 McDonald's match against Le Havre.
Since recovering from his injury, the Portuguese striker has been a key addition, adding a much-needed scoring spark to PSG's attack. The ankle injury caused Ramos to miss 15 matches and he eventually made his return in the capital club's 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in late November.
Ramos played 18 minutes against the German side and while the result was a defeat, it helped the 23-year-old find his footing. The former SL Benfica player has scored four goals and registered one assist in seven matches across all competitions since his return.
In November, PSG manager Luis Enrique spoke to the media about what it means to have Ramos back in the squad as the player brings unique qualities to the team.
"He can create different in-game situations, and he has a different profile. That profile allows us to vary our style of play depending on the match and on the opponent. I use a number nine or a false nine depending on what we need in each situation and in each game."
The latest Ramos goal came in dramatic fashion as he scored the game-tying goal against RC Lens in the Coupe de France Round of 64 matchup that allowed the Parisians to win the contest on penalties and advance to the next stage of the competition.
Ramos has scored against RB Salzburg, Olympique Lyonnais, and AS Monaco since his return, proving his ability to deliver in crucial matches for the Ligue 1 McDonald's leaders. In November, Bradley Barcola shared with the media that PSG's attack gets a significant boost when Ramos takes on the No. 9 role.
"With Gonçalo back, we know we have more presence in the box, especially when it comes to crosses. We can also rely on him with his back to goal. It's good for us, he gives us confidence."
PSG struggled to score goals without Ramos, going through a stretch where they managed just one goal in three matches across all competitions. As they look ahead to 2025, the team aim to have a fully fit Ramos in the second half of the season to avoid any more difficult goal-scoring runs.
