After losing four out of their last five games in Ligue 1 McDonald's action, Éric Roy's side got back to winning ways with a convincing win over a struggling FC Nantes side at Stade Francis Le Blé. Senegalese striker Abdallah Sima grabbed a late brace (88' & 90+3') to seal the result after Kamory Doumbia's early strike (24') and an ball flicked into the back of the net from a freekick by Brenden Chardonnet (27'). Douglas Augusto grabbed one back for the Canaris (48'), but it wasn't enough for Antoine Kombouaré's side who fell to 14th in the league.
Brest have recorded a 43.8% win ratio in Ligue 1 McDonald's in 2024 which is the highest in their history for a calendar year.
Strasbourg managed to climb further away from danger in the league as Liam Rosenior's side got back to winning ways in style away in Normandy against Le Havre. It was three goals for the Strasbourgeois, with Habib Diarra opening the scoring with a powerful right-footed shot from inside the area (28'). RCSA then doubled their lead after Bakwa set up Nanasi for another right-footed finish only a few minutes later (32') for the Swedish international's fourth goal so far this season in Strasbourg colours.
Didier Digard made a triple change at half-time, but it was Strasbourg who had the final say. The ball was fumbled by Desmas from a corner, and Brazilian Andrey Santos was on hand alone at the far post to take advantage and finish (90').
Strasbourg have won by a three-goal scoreline for the first time in Ligue 1 McDonald's since December 2021 (3-0 against Nice). The Alsatiens also won their 2nd away match in the topflight in 2024 following their victory over Nantes back in March (3-1).
Rennes clinched their third straight win in Ligue 1, and their second consecutive at home under new manager Jorge Sampaoli. There was worry when Amine Gouiri had to be replaced by Albert Gronbaek in the 15th minute. Yet the Dane would end up opening the scoring for Rennes after he was found at the back post by Ludovic Blas and simply headed the hosts in front (33'). The Breton side would have to wait to double the lead against Les Angévins, when Lorenz Assignon scored to double the lead at Roazhon Park in injury-time to seal all three points (90+2').
Jorge Sampaoli has won his first two Ligue 1 McDonald's home matches on the Rennes bench (after the 5-0 win over St Etienne). It dates back in January-February 2016 with Rolland Courbis to find a SRFC coach failing to win his two first L1 receptions (W1 then L1).
