Olympique Lyonnais continue their impressive run in the UEFA Europa League with a 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night at Groupama Stadium.
In the first half, the home side fell behind as Frankfurt took the early lead in the 18th minute thanks to a goal from Ansgar Knauff who scored off an assist from former Paris Saint-Germain and Stade de Reims player Hugo Ekitike.
The lead wouldn't last long for the Bundesliga club as Lyon responded with a goal from Rayan Cherki in the 27th minute off a right-footed shot from the center of the box. Both teams would head into halftime leveled 1-1 with a thrilling second half waiting on the horizon.
Early in the second half, OL took a 2-1 advantage thanks to a goal in the 50th minute from Malick Fofana, who scored off a left-footed shot from the center of the box following a fast break.
Les Gones didn't waste time scoring the third goal as Ernest Nuamah made the contest 3-1 in the 54th minute, scoring off a left-footed shot from the right side of the box.
Frankfurt made an attempt to stage a comeback when Omar Marmoush found the net in the 85th minute, scoring with a right-footed shot from the right side of the box into the bottom left corner, thanks to a through ball assist from Can Uzun.
The German side couldn't find the third goal to level the scoring as the Ligue 1 club left with a 3-2 win and took all three points. The win currently puts Lyon in fourth place with 13 points, putting them on pace to automatically qualify for the next phase of the Europa League.
After the match Lyon veteran Corentin Tolisso spoke with the media to talk about his performance as the 30-year-old provided an assist on the opening goal from Cherki.
"I'm doing well, I feel good. I think what has changed compared to previous years is that physically, I am really ready, and I feel it. I am able to keep up the efforts, and I am focused on continuing this way. I'm playing consecutive matches, and that feels really good. I am able to perform well, which gives me confidence. I need to keep going."
The victory over Frankfurt allowed Pierre Sage and his team to reach an impressive club milestone. Lyon hadn't won four straight matches, scoring at least three goals in each, in official competition since February 2017.
