Both Lille and Brest met at Stade Pierre-Mauroy after having shone in Champions League action so far this season. Yet the two clubs were fighting different objectives in Ligue 1, with Lille aiming to close in on Marseille and those podium spots. Brest were meanwhile trying to build on their win against Strasbourg last weekend, but they faced tough opponents in LOSC on home turf.
Les Dogues would get a penalty in the first 10 minutes after Julien Le Cardinal fouled Benjamin André in the box, and after VAR review the referee would point to the spot and give a yellow card to the Brest defender. Jonathan David stepped up and duly converted for his 100th goal for Lille (8'). It was a goal that set the tone for the hosts in the first half, who would go on to double their lead just before half-time via Hakon Haraldsson, after David tricked Le Cardinal on the flank and played across to Haraldsson who finished of the move with a flat-footed finish (45').
Ludovic Ajorque would then find his second goal in two successive league games, Camara made a superb run off the ball, picking up the ball and running 30 metres up the pitch. He perfectly shifted the ball to Ajorque, who is patient and sends a powerful shot under Chevalier's hands (48'). Just as the Breton side thought they were back into the contest, Les Dogues would strike once again.
After scoring his 100th goal, David would grab his 101st in quick succession. He would have to thank Edon Zhegrova for an assist, after the Kosovan dribbled past Camara and stung the palms of Bizot with a strike. David then simply followed up and finished emphatically to give Lille some breathing space in the match (69'). It was two goals from the Canadian international that sealed all three points for Les Dogues, who closed in on Marseille and the podium spots in Ligue 1.
Lille secured their 1000th victory at home, whilst Jonathan David netted twice to surpass the 100-goal mark in Lille colours.
