Paris Saint-Germain fell 1-0 in a tightly contested UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night at Allianz Arena.
In the first half, the German side recorded ten total shots while PSG countered with six total. Midway through the first 45 minutes, it would be the home side that broke through the scoring thanks to a goal from Kim Min-jae in the 38th minute.
Bayern Munich went into halftime with a 1-0 lead and the situation would get worse for the Ligue 1 club as their comeback attempt took a massive hit in the second half.
Ousmane Dembélé received a second yellow card in the 56th minute, forcing PSG to play the rest of the match with ten men. The visitors recorded five total shots in the final 45 minutes but couldn't find the equalizing goal as Bayern Munich secured a 1-0 victory.
After the match, Marquinhos spoke with Canal+ and shared his thoughts on the difficult loss.
"They were physically more prepared than us in the duels. We knew they’d press us from the start. The first half was tight, and we took a few risks. In the second half, we made some adjustments, but the red card made things difficult."
"Looking at the standings, of course, we’re concerned. We’ve got three matches left—three finals. One at home against Manchester City, a top team, and two away games. Our goal is to qualify. We didn’t come here just to fall behind."
PSG are still on the outside looking in, sitting in 26th place with four points. With three Champions League matches left in the league phase, Luis Enrique and his team will need to secure victories to move into a spot that will allow them to progress to the next stage of the competition.
The Champions League in 2024 is becoming a year to forget for PSG as they have lost six matches in the same calendar year in a European Cup for the first time in their history. PSG have one more Champions League match before the year ends when they face Red Bull Salzburg on December 10.
