Joshua King scored once again this weekend for Toulouse FC, as Les Violets successfully beat managerless Stade Rennais away from home (0-2) and sealed a third consecutive victory. The Norway international and former Premier League striker is settling well into life in Ligue 1, having already netted three times in recent weeks for Les Violets.
King was a free agent this summer, following two years in the Turkish league with Fernerbahçe before signing for Toulouse. The Garonne side were looking for a replacement for Thijs Dallinga, who had just signed for Serie A side Bologna. The former Premier League man had big boots to fill in the wake of the Dutchman's departure. King came to prominence in England with AFC Bournemouth, where he scored 53 goals in 184 appearances for the Cherries before spells at Everton and Watford FC in the Premier League.
"I have had a long career in England and spent two years in Turkey. However, in recent seasons, I haven’t played much due to injuries. I told my agent that I needed to move. My conversations with the president and the recruitment manager convinced me," King said in a recent interview. "I was drawn to the project, which reminded me a bit of Bournemouth—a club full of ambition with many young players on the rise. It’s a club that may not be at the top of its league but aims to be there."
The attacker scored his first Ligue 1 goal against SCO Angers, before netting a game later against Montpellier whilst also adding an assist. He played a full 90' against Reims before finding the net again against Rennes this weekend, a sign he is settling well in the competition. "Ligue 1 is always considered as one of the top five leagues in world football. Very physical, with lots of pace. It’s a good test for me as I aim to reach my best form again," said King.
