Juventus’ Top Five Matches Against Ligue 1 Opponents
The Serie A side is no stranger to facing Ligue 1 clubs, and before the contest against Les Dogues, here are the top five matches between the Italian club and French opposition.
Juventus vs. Olympique Lyonnais - UCL Round of 16 (2020)
Following a 1-0 win in the first leg thanks to a goal from Lucas Tousart, OL would advance past Juventus despite losing 2-1 and Cristiano Ronaldo recording a brace in the second leg thanks to the away goal tiebreaker that was still in effect at the time. Memphis Depay provided the goal in the away match, leading to the Ligue 1 side winning the knockout stage matchup.
Juventus vs. Paris Saint-Germain - UCL Group Stage (2022)
Juventus' most recent encounter with a French side was two seasons ago in the Champions League group stage. In September 2022, Kylian Mbappé provided the brace to allow PSG to secure a 2-1 win over the Italian opposition at the Parc des Princes. Mbappé also scored in the second group stage match against Juventus in November 2022, which PSG also won 2-1 at Allianz Stadium.
Juventus vs. FC Nantes - UEL Playoff (2023)
One occurrence in which Juventus defeated a Ligue 1 side came in 2023 in the UEFA Europa League playoff phase after the Italian side dropped from the Champions League. The Old Lady would clash with Nantes, and thanks to a hat-trick performance from former PSG star Ángel Di María in the second leg, Juventus advanced on a 4-1 aggregate score.
Juventus vs. Olympique Lyonnais - UEL Quarterfinals (2014)
The Europa League is the competition where Juventus have found the most success over French opposition as the Serie A club clashed with OL in the quarterfinal stage in 2014. Juventus would secure a 3-1 aggregate score to advance past the French opposition.
Juventus vs. Bordeaux - UCL Group Stage (2009)
Bordeaux secured a 2-0 victory over Juventus when the two sides collided in the Champions League over a decade ago. The French side had goals from Fernando and Marouane Chamakh to push the squad toward an impressive victory.
