Luis Enrique's men relinquished top spot in their previous Ligue 1 outing, when they drew 1-1 with OGC Nice and saw Monaco leapfrog them in the standings. There'll certainly be no panic at this stage of the season for Paris Saint-Germain, but on Saturday evening they face a Strasbourg side who have started well under English coach Liam Rosenior. Yet, the task is clear for Rosenior and his Alsacien outfit: break a run of 33 Ligue 1 meetings with PSG that has seen the side from the capital remain undefeated.
RCSA have only fallen to defeat once in their opening seven games, recording their best start to a Ligue 1 campaign since 1995. They currently sit in 7th place, as Rosenior's men dream of battling for European football by the end of the season. Les Alsaciens have, however, been unfortunate in their previous two away outings. Strasbourg led against Lyon (1-3) but OL mounted an impressive second-half comeback (4-3), before Strasbourg again failed to hold their lead against Lille (3-3).
"It's going to be a challenging game against a very, very good team. But we're continuing to work and we won't be changing any of our ideas," said RCSA manager Liam Rosenior in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday afternoon. "We know we can get a result there."
Rosenior will travel to the French capital with almost a full squad, apart from two key absences in Ismaël Doukouré and Guèla Doué (both suspended). "We've changed a lot of things in 7 matches. It's obviously a shame that Douk' and Guéla are out, but other players are waiting for their chance and I'm sure they'll take it."
For PSG, Presnel Kimpembe has now returned to collective training with the rest of the team but won't likely have too much involvement against Strasbourg. Gonçalo Ramos and Lucas Hernandez are still out of action with their long term injuries. Other than that, Enrique can count on a strong squad as Les Parisiens hope to bounce back from two games without a win in all competitions.
