In the latest CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post, Paris Saint-Germain's João Neves has been ranked as the top chance creator in Europe’s big-5 leagues, ahead of some of the most well-known names in the game. The 20-year-old Portuguese midfielder posted a remarkable index score of 99.4, putting him above players like Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) and Cole Palmer (Chelsea).
Since his arrival at Paris Saint-Germain, João Neves has quickly become a pivotal figure in Luis Enrique’s team. The young midfielder started his time with the capital club in sensational fashion, becoming the only player to have registered four assists after two games in the last 20 Ligue 1 seasons. Since then, the Portugal international has grabbed five assists domestically so far this season in Ligue 1 in 525 minutes played for Les Parisiens.
The CIES chance creation index, which factors in key passes, second assists, and passes breaking opposition lines, reflects eves’ growing influence in PSG's starting XI. His ability to orchestrate play from deep, combined with his sharp tactical awareness, has set him apart as one of the most exciting young talents in world football.
Neves isn’t the only Ligue 1 player to make his mark in the CIES rankings. Fellow PSG man Achraf Hakimi also features prominently, ranking 19th with an index score of 82.6. Hakimi’s explosive runs and consistent deliveries from the right flank have made him a constant threat, scoring a goal and recording three assists in six appearances for the Moroccan this season.
Luis Henrique of Olympique de Marseille further highlights Ligue 1’s strength in producing top-level creators. The Brazilian winger ranks 13th in the big-5 league rankings with a score of 86.1, after scoring three times and recording three assists so far this season. In addition, Junya Ito of Stade de Reims ranks 32nd with a score of 79.0. The Japanese international has been a vital part of Reims' attacking setup this season, scoring twice and assisting once in seven appearances so far.
