Heading into this clash, Lens have been one of the impressive squads under new manager Will Still. The 31-year-old has his team riding a four-match unbeaten streak with two wins and two draws to start this 2024-25 season.
Lyon are off to a slow start this campaign with one win in their first three matches before facing Lens. Going into the FIFA international break, Pierre Sage and his team secured their first win of the season in a thrilling 4-3 victory over RC Strasbourg on August 30.
In the first half, Lens generated six shots while Lyon countered with five, but neither side could break through and open the scoring heading into halftime. In the final 45 minutes, the visitors recorded three shots while the home side recorded six.
Neither side could find the back of the net, and one reason is that the two goalkeepers kept a clean sheet. Lens' Brice Samba made three saves in the match to keep OL from scoring as the 30-year-old recorded his third clean sheet of the season, keeping Angers SCO and Stade Brestois goalless during those matches.
Lyon's Lucas Perri made four saves on the other side of the pitch to keep the home team off the scoresheet as the Brazilian recorded his first clean sheet of the season.
Both teams will look to turn the page on this result as Lens travels to Roazhon Park to face Stade Rennais next Saturday. Rennes will be heading into this matchup coming off an impressive 3-0 win over Montpellier Hérault SC with goals from Ludovic Blas, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and Albert Grønbæk.
As for OL, they'll welcome Olympique de Marseille to Groupama Stadium next Sunday, with the home side looking to snap Roberto De Zerbi's four-match unbeaten streak.
Following the contest against OM, Lyon will begin the league phase of the UEFA Europa League when they host Greek side Olympiacos on September 26 and will have to prepare to balance league and European matches.
