Copa América Recap: Argentina Defeats Peru; Canada Advances

Argentina 2-0 Peru

The reigning Copa América champions secured their third win of the group stage and top Group A with nine points after a 2-0 victory over Peru at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. While former Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi didn't feature in Argentina's matchup, there were still plenty of Ligue 1 ties in this contest.

In the starting 11 for Lionel Scaloni's team were former PSG standouts Ángel Di María, Leandro Paredes, and Giovani Lo Celso all played in the match for Argentina. Olympique Lyonnais defender Nicolás Tagliafico was in the starting 11 and played all 90 minutes. Both goals for La Albiceleste came from Inter Milan's Lautaro Martínez, with Di María assisting on the first goal.

Canada 0-0 Chile

LOSC Lille's Jonathan David was in the starting 11 for Canada, while on the opposite side, Toulouse FC's Gabriel Suazo featured for Chile. The 26-year-old defender's participation in the contest in which La Roja needed a win wouldn't last long.

Suazo was shown his first yellow card in the 12th minute, followed by a second in the 27th minute, resulting in a red card and leaving Chile with ten players for most of the match. David played 89 minutes for Canada before being taken off the pitch as neither team could find the back of the net.

The draw allows Canada to finish in second place and advance to the knockout stage of the competition. Chile crashes out of the competition having scored zero goals, finishing in third place with two points, and Peru below them with one point.
