Facundo Medina has joined Marseille from Lens

Marseille have officially tied up their third recruit of the summer transfer window, signing Lens defender Facundo Medina on a loan to buy agreement. The Argentina international follows English pair Angel Gomes and CJ Egan-Riley through the door at the Commanderie so far this summer.

Born in Villa Fiorito, Argentina, Medina began his youth career at River Plate, before getting his professional start at Talleres de Córdoba in 2018. His talent quickly caught the attention of European scouts, and it was RC Lens who secured his signature in the summer of 2020 as they returned to Ligue 1 McDonald's.

Over the course of four seasons in northern France, Medina became a cornerstone of Lens' back line. He became a fan favourite in a side which shook French football and when they finished second in the 2022-2023 season, earning a spot in the UEFA Champions League. In total, he played 131 matches for Lens, scoring 5 goals, and has earned 3 senior caps for Argentina since 2020. He will join compatriot and Marseille captain Leonardo Balerdi at the club and in the Olympien backline.

Medina landed in Provence on Tuesday afternoon, flying in from Spain where he had been completing individual pre-season preparations with a personal trainer. He was met by OM’s welcoming staff as well as a group of passionate OM fans who braved the intense heat to greet him at Marignane airport.

Accompanied by his lawyer Sevan Karian, the Argentine took time for photos and shared a clear message of intent: "I'm coming to OM to win titles," he said, proudly wearing a club scarf.  Medina joins the club on loan with an option to make the deal permanent in due course.

Barco to Racing

Elsewhere in Ligue 1, RC Strasbourg announced that they had exercised a purchase option on Valentín Barco, adding another Argentine the French top flight. A versatile player able to be deployed on the wing and central midfield, Barco made more than a dozen appearances for Liam Rosenior since arriving on loan, and has now signed a contract with the Alsatians through 2029.
