Nice currently have four points in Ligue 1 so far after four games, but if they lose against Saint-Étienne, they could record their lowest total after five games in a season since the 2011-2012 campaign. On the opposing side, Saint-Étienne go into the game off the back of their first win of the season against Lille last Friday (1-0) as they look to secure consecutive wins for the first time since February 2022.
Franck Haise had a realistic view on OGC Nice's start to the 2024-2025 campaign, recognising that Les Aiglons have work to do for their season to get truly underway. "These four points are the reality at the moment and it's quite logical," said the Frenchman in his pre-match press conference. "What I like is that we're making progress. But we still need to go further. We're a few points short of what we'd hoped for."
"When you're a coach, your life is full of processing things. The analysis I have is very similar to the one I made on the spot. On the whole, there were some positive things in our defensive and attacking play. We created clear chances and situations that should have become chances. The four matches have shown progress in the game. Now we also need to be effective."
Olivier Dall'Oglio has a significant amount of injuries to deal with, specifically in terms of long-term absences that include Yvann Maçon, Anthony Briançon, Cheikh Fall, Thomas Monconduit, and Ibrahima Wadji. It makes the task of adapting to life in Ligue 1 all that but trickier, but Dall'Oglio says his side have to make the leap quickly. "We had to adapt to Ligue 1. What we could do in Ligue 2, we can no longer do in Ligue 1. You get information faster, you have less space and less time. Either we adapt or we die. We need to raise our game."
Nice possible XI: Bulka; Ndayishimiye, Bombito, Dante; Clauss, Rosario, Ndombele, Bard; Cho, Guessand, Boga.
Saint-Étienne possible XI: Larsonneur; Cornud, Abdelhamid, Batubinsika, Appiah; Amougou, Ekwah, Moueffek; Cafaro, Stassin, Davitashvili.
