After Les Bleus sealed their spot along with Spain in the other semi-final tie, England beat Switzerlands on penalties whilst the Netherlands came from behind to see off Turkey to reach the semi-final stage of Euro 2024.

England 1-1 Switzerland (AET, 5-3 pens)

Jordan Pickford was once again the hero for the Three Lions, after saving Manuel Akanji's spot kick to edge out a tough Switzerland side in a tense penalty shootout. It was a tough stalemate in the normal 90 minutes, with Monaco man Breel Embolo getting the game's first shot on target in the 50th minute. The Monégasque player would open the scoring for Switzerland, latching onto Dan Ndoye's pinpoint cross with a deft flick past Pickford after the ball's trajectory was ever-so altered by the trailing foot of John Stones.

England behind again, Gareth Southgate would roll on the changes with a triple substitution. It would seem to pay off, as only five minutes later Arsenal man Bukayo Saka would curl a wonderful effort from range to level proceedings in Düsseldorf. Following a cagey period of possession and a huge chance from Shaqiri when he hit the post, the game would end level in the 90'. Extra time would come and go with little to separate the two sides before a tense penalty shootout. It couldn't have started better for the Three Lions when Pickford saved Akanji's effort, before England went on to score all five of their efforts to win the shootout and the tie.

Netherlands 2-1 Turkey

The Netherlands staged a second-half comeback against Turkey to reach the semi-final stage of the Euros for the first time since 2004. They were, however, troubled by a relentless Turkish side who took the lead 10 minutes before half-time via defender Samet Akaydin who headed home following a lovely cross from Arda Güler. The Dutch would spring back into life and pile the pressure on Turkey's defence, finally breaking through with another thumping header from another defender, Stefan de Vrij.

It would only take six minutes for the Netherlands to take the lead as Mert Müldür knocked the ball into his own net under pressure from Cody Gakpo. Once again, the substitution of Wout Weghorst for the Netherlands proved decisive for Ronald Koeman's side.

England will face the Netherlands in Dortmund on Wednesday 10th July, whilst France will face Spain in Munich on Tuesday evening.
