Nice Score Late to Steal Points Away From Strasbourg

Les Aiglons opened the scoring in the 38th minute to take positive momentum into halftime, thanks to a goal from Melvin Bard.

Nice’s left wingback made a driving run through the middle and was picked out perfectly by a long ball from Jonathan Clauss. His first touch was flawless, and he calmly slotted it past Djordje Petrovic.

Strasbourg came out of the break strong, scoring twice to take a one-goal lead. The first came in the 51st minute, with Emanuel Emegha finding the back of the net.

Emegha won the kind of one-on-one battle he thrives on, completely outmuscling Moïse Bombito before breaking through on goal. Then, with a calm left-footed finish, he slotted it past Nice's Marcin Bułka.

It didn’t take long for the home side to go in front—just three minutes later, Strasbourg grabbed the lead through Sam Amo-Ameyaw.

After winning the ball off Bombito, Andrey Santos pushed forward and passed to Amo-Ameyaw on the right, who cut inside and finished with his right foot, with Bułka getting a hand to it but unable to stop the shot.

Strasbourg looked like they would secure all three points, but Nice wasn't ready to leave with a loss and scored the game-tying goal in the second half stoppage time. Off a corner from Clauss, Youssouf Ndayishimiye outmuscled the Strasbourg defense and beat Petrovic.

After the match, Clauss spoke with DAZN to share his thoughts on the result.

"We played a good match. We controlled the first half, but then we made two mistakes that cost us a lot of effort, even though we were in control of the game. We kept the right mentality and are happy to have equalized, but there are big lessons to be learned from this match because if we hadn’t made those two mistakes, we could have come away with more than just one point."

"We need to take responsibility, own up to it, and be even more focused and involved during the tough moments. We’re a bit disappointed because we only got one point—fortunately, we got that one point—but even though there were mistakes, we learn. We still have to focus on the positives."

The Stat: 18

After his goal against Nice, Amo-Ameyaw (18 years and 8 months old) became the youngest player to score his second goal with Strasbourg in Ligue 1 McDonald's since Marc Andrieux (18 years and 6 months old) on March 26, 1985.
