Anthony Lopes has moved to FC Nantes after nearly 500 appearances with Olympique Lyonnais

Since making his debut in Ligue 1 McDonald’s on April 28, 2013 in a derby against AS Saint-Étienne (1-1) in which he replaced Rémy Vercoutre, Anthony Lopes is at 34 years of age the goalkeeper with the highest number of appearances in the top flight with 377 matches in the colors of Olympique Lyonnais. He notably has 194 victories (51%) and 121 clean sheets over this period: here are some of his best numbers.

The 10 goalkeepers with the most appearances in Ligue 1 McDonald’s since Lopes’ debut:
1. Anthony Lopes: 377 matches
2. Steve Mandanda: 368 matches
3. Benoît Costil: 365 matches
4. Benjamin Lecomte: 304 matches
5. Alban Lafont: 278 matches
6. Stéphane Ruffier: 277 matches
7. Danijel Subasic: 192 matches
8. Paul Bernardoni and Rémy Vercoutre: 181 matches
10. Baptiste Reynet: 173 matches

As for the goalkeepers with the most games with the same club, the Portuguese international has an even clearer lead over the competition, with Mandanda having made 285 appearances with the Olympique de Marseille over the period. Next come Ruffier (277 games with ASSE) and Subasic (192 games with Monaco).

No other goalkeeper has won more than him since he started playing in Ligue 1 McDonald’s (194). And as for goalkeepers with at least 100 games, apart from Salvatore Sirigu with PSG (68%) and Danijel Subasic with AS Monaco (57%), none have a higher winning percentage (51%).

Anthony Lopes is also the number 1 goalkeeper in terms of saves with 1061. Only one other player has also crossed the 1000 save mark in Ligue 1 McDonald’s over the period: Benoît Costil (1018).

The ex-Gone is also first in clean sheets since his debut in the French top flight (121). He is ahead of French internationals Steve Mandanda (115) and Stéphane Ruffier (106), the only others to reach 100.

Another area in which Anthony Lopes has impressed is penalties. He has made eight saves here as many as Mike Maignan and Subasic, and just behind Costil (15) and Reynet (10).

If he ranks second in having  conceded the most goals in Ligue 1 McDonald’s (439), Lopes does have an average of 1.16 goals/match. Among the 26 goalkeepers with at least 100 appearances since April 28, 2013, only twelve have a better average.

Here, it is the ex-Parisian Sirigu who is in the lead (0.63 goals/match). Likewise, the Italian has the best clean sheets/match ratio over the period with 1 every two games (54/107)! Anthony Lopes only has 8 ahead of him in this ranking (0.32).

In those aforementioned 11 years and 8 months, Olympique Lyonnais has used 8 different goalkeepers in Ligue 1 McDonald’s -- a total significantly lower than those of Monaco and PSG, but higher than those of only Lens and Marseille among teams currently in the top flight.

On the other hand, the Gones stand out in terms of the percentage of matches played by only one of their goalkeepers, since Anthony Lopes played 82% of all OL matches over the period. To find a consistency approaching this, we must look at Sainté, where over the same period Stéphane Ruffier played 71% of the team's matches in the elite. Behind him Steve Mandanda for OM and Matz Sels at RCSA (61%) share third place.

Only 5 goalkeepers have played more matches in Ligue 1 McDonald's in the 21st century than Anthony Lopes: Steve Mandanda (552), Mickaël Landreau (469), Stéphane Ruffier (428), Nicolas Penneteau (407) and Benoît Costil (407).
