Weekend Roundup: Mikautadze stars for Georgia and more

Over a busy weekend of international action, from Africa to Europe and beyond, the stars of Ligue 1 McDonald's were hard at work helping their countries in friendlies, qualification for international tournaments and more. Here's our recap of the weekend's action:

Georges Mikautadze helped Georgia to a crucial draw against Ukraine.

UEFA:

Saturday's action saw Georges Mikautadze of Olympique Lyonnais score a vital goal off the bench to earn his country a one-all draw at home to Ukraine, with Saint-Étienne playmaker Zurko Davitashvili also coming off the bench. In Turkey, Stade Rennais and Wales midfielder Jordan James was joined by FC Nantes' Sorba Thomas in the eleven, but they were unable to break down the hosts' defence in a match that ended in a scoreless draw.

In the Netherlands, Le Havre's Loïc Négo and his Hungary teammates endured a tough loss at the hands of the hosts. Sweden and Lille defender Gabriel Gudmundsson played  90 minutes for the hosts as they beat Slovakia, with Paris Saint-Germain's Milan Skriniar being sent off late on. On Sunday, LOSC Lille midfielder Angel Gomes came off the bench as England thumped ten-man Ireland, 5-0. Playing at home, Norway and Stade Rennais defender Leo Østigard helped his side to another win, beating Kazakhstan by the same score.

AFCON:

On Saturday, a Guinea side featuring the Ligue 1 trio of Racing Club de Strasbourg defender Saïdou Sow, Issiaga Sylla (Montpellier HSC) and Abdoulaye Touré (Le Havre) kept a clean sheet in a hard-fought win over DR Congo, Algeria were impressive in a 5-1 win over Liberia at home on Sunday, with Lille's Aissa Mandi and Rennes' Amine Gouiri both on the scoresheet, with Himad Abdelli (Angers SCO) and Saïd Benrahma (Olympique Lyonnais) both coming off the bench.

CONMEBOL:

Stade Rennais' Andrés Gomez scored a goal off the bench, his second in three matches for his country, but it wasn't enough as Colombia were defeated with goal in the final minutes of added time, 3-2, on a goal by former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte late on Friday. Action in South America continues tomorrow evening, with all ten teams in action.
